The Bergisel ski jump is a year-round visitor highlight in Tyrol. After the former ÖSV President Prof. Peter Schröcksnadel had initiated the construction of the new ski jump, the new construction of the ski jump according to the new model of the architect Zaha Hadid began in June 2001. The construction costs amounted to almost 15.4 million.

History The hill that holds the Bergisel ski jump is a very famous site… an attraction in its own right. For it was here that the Austrian freedom fighter Andreas Hofer assembled Tyrolean peasants and commons folk (18,000 in number) against the Bavarian and French forces (3 rd battle of Bergisel 1809).

In December 1999 the firm of architects Zaha Hadid won the international competition to build a new runway in the ski jumping hill Bersigel.

The first ski jumping event at the Bergisel hill was held in year 1927 on the natural hill and only one year later the first tower was built. The ski jump was refurbished in 1933 for the Nordic World Ski Championship. However, an accident in which tower collapsed happened in 1941 during the visit of the youth sport clubs.
